GHPL is pleased to announce a significant hydrocarbon discovery at Baragzai X-1 in the Nashpa Exploration Licence (EL), one of Pakistan’s notable recent multi-reservoir discoveries. The block is operated by Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (65% WI) in partnership with Pakistan Petroleum Limited (30%) and GHPL (5%).
Spudded on 24 December 2024 and drilled to a depth of 5,170 metres, the well successfully tested hydrocarbons from five separate reservoirs during 2025–26, delivering the following flow rates at a 32/64-inch choke size:
- Kingriali Formation: 2,280 BOPD and 5.6 MMscfd
- Datta Formation: 4,100 BOPD and 10.5 MMscfd
- Samanasuk & Shinawari Formations: 3,100 BOPD and 8.1 MMscfd
- Hangu & Lumshiwal Formations: 225 BOPD and 1.01 MMscfd
- Lockhart Formation: 3,765 BOPD and 11.2 MMscfd
The successful testing across multiple stratigraphic horizons confirms a prolific hydrocarbon system and strong commercial potential. Baragzai X-1 has now been brought on production, adding indigenous oil and gas supplies to Pakistan’s energy mix and supporting the country’s energy security objectives.
GHPL congratulates the operator and joint venture partners on this landmark achievement, which highlights the remaining prospectivity of the Nashpa EL and the success of collaborative efforts in unlocking Pakistan’s hydrocarbon resources.
